Dave's Netlife

One of my most frequently asked questions is: what do you do all day/night on the 'Net ?

(Sidenote: please check out the BONWAG Diary. As I find cool stuff, I'll post it here, or in BONWAG Links.)

But apart from that, what tools do I use?

  • I update BONWAG (obviously)
  • I frequent the following online communities:
  • I spend time chatting to friends through
  • I play some online games :
    • Tribes
    • Acrophobia and Get The Picture (sadly departed...)
  • I surf on the friendly waves provided by space.net
  • I use SpamCop to fight back the persistent hordes of spammers which pound at my door

Some of the websites I've worked on in my professional life (not counting intranets and other stuff you can't see on the net) include

  • 1994
  • 1995
    • Business Directions Magazine (now defunct)
    • Wray and Associates (since updated - but it took a looong time)
    • Internet Business Centers (since updated) - I got to register 'business.com.au'!
    • POM Resource Center
one of the most advanced order processing systems of its day. Ask me to explain it sometime and be horrified! This seems to be the oldest living design of mine still working.
    • Drager New Zealand
    • Gath Surf Helmets (coolest site yet!) (now defunct)
  • 1996
    • Interflora (Archive Feb 98) - first to offer online ordering and 'e-flowers'.
    • Planet Soccer (now defunct: Archive)
    • Capricorn Society
Amazingly, this one has won an award almost 4 years after it was last significantly updated by the project team I was working on (unless there's something else going on behind the scenes i don;t know about). I heard they made some comment to that effect when accepting the award. How's that for writing code ahead of its time? (hehe)
    • Crommelin's Machinery (since updated)
    • Linscott Consulting (since updated)
    • Optel (since updated)
    • Performance Development Consultants - clever client, but development from hell. Looks like it's still a struggle....
  • 1997
    • National Homes
    • International Center for the Application of Solar Energy (since updated)
    • Altona Industries (since updated)
    • Westbond Credit Society (since updated)
    • Ideal Homes Exhibition (now defunct) - great fun. first experience designing online games
    • Mission Personnel (now defunct)
    • Tubemakers P.L. (since updated)
  • 1998
    • NGA.net.au (since updated)
    • Hoyts Cinemas (since updated)
    • Water and Rivers Commission (since updated)
  • 1999
    • WA Land Information System (since updated)
  • 2000
  • 2001
